In September, Columbia student Emma Sulkowicz began carrying her mattress everywhere she went on campus as an art project she said would only end when her accused rapist was expelled from school. That project has turned into a “Carry That Weight” protest that more than 130 colleges and universities around the world participated in last week. Students and faculty carried mattresses in support of Sulkowicz and in solidarity “with survivors of sexual and domestic violence,”  and at Columbia, students left 28 mattresses on the doorstep of the university president and listed their demands for reform.
