Adam Sandler’s next movie is based on a viral video. Pixelswill be the tentpole film of Sony’s summer 2015 lineup, and its source material is a two-minute video that went viral in 2010, in which video game elements like Tetris blocks and Pac-Man start to attack the real world. The film version will have Sandler and Kevin James teaming up to fight invading aliens who have mistaken video game violence against them as a declaration of war. Whether or not the film is a success, it is an example of the increasing influence of internet media on traditional entertainment. (Recode)
