Despite their new “affordable” option, Apple is in the luxury electronics business. But one company believes that there is big opportunity in smartphones for the masses: FreedomPop is making phones for $99 with the option to pay $11 a month for unlimited texts and calls in the hope to capture those who want but can’t currently afford pricey electronics.
