This weekend, the hashtag #nowthatschersdead (read: “now Thatcher’s dead”) swept Twitter after the death of Margaret Thatcher was announced. Unfortunately, some pop music fans read that same tag as “now that Cher’s dead,” and began to publically mourn the death of the music icon. This slightly humorous hashtag blunder only sheds light on the role of sites like Twitter in young consumers’ news consumption today. (Salon)
