At the start of 2024, fashion experts predicted what trends would dominate the year, but ultimately, it’s young people who determine the trends that actually stick. Our data shows young gens say people like them and their generation are the biggest drivers when it comes to creating new fashion trends, far ahead of brands and designers. These trends are being set by what resonates within their own circles and what they’re seeing from their peers across social media. And while YPulse’s Fashion Preferences and Style report reveals 76% of 13-39-year-olds claim that “I don’t care about fashion trends; I just wear what I like,” the continued existence of trends suggests otherwise. It seems young people want to express their individuality but are still influenced by the collective tastes of their generations.
