There’s a growing perception that young people today are more isolated than generations before them. YPulse has written about it ourselves, with loneliness common among young people and third places harder to come by for Gen Z than ever before. But does this mean that all young people are unmoored and unsupported? Not exactly—but they’re certainly not finding community in all the same places that Boomers and Xers did, and those who think that community connections need to be in-person may not approve. However, the majority of Gen Z and Millennials do feel they’re finding a sense of community somewhere (not even including family and friends). YPulse’s Clicking on Community trend research found 69% of young consumers feel the communities they are a part of are a big part of their identity, giving them a sense of belonging, confidence / self-esteem, advice, and stress relief.
