Young people in China are getting into luxury aesthetic medicine, which could be the next boom for the beauty industry.

May 06 2021

Young people in China are getting into luxury aesthetic medicine, which could be the next boom for the beauty industry. First there was cosmetic surgery, now there’s “luxury aesthetic medicine,” a term used to describe skin and facial treatments like photorejuvenation and mesotherapy. While these kinds of treatments have been popular among older audiences, young people in China are showing increased enthusiasm for aesthetic medicine because of the results they’re able to achieve compared to everyday skincare products. According to China’s report on aesthetic medicine and beauty trends, consumers under 25-years-old make up more than 50% of people in China receiving the skincare treatments. Internet influencers are fueling young people’s interest in medical-based skincare through brand promotions, and have even offered their own aesthetic medicine specials in live streams. Skincare brands have noted the popularity, and companies like Estée Lauder and The Ordinary have started taking an ingredient-focused approach with their product names to illustrate how they mimic high-end skincare like chemical peels and laser treatments.
