Language learning apps are getting a big boost during the pandemic as isolated consumers try to pick up new skills. Yesterday we wrote about how many 13-39-year-olds are interested in taking online lessons to learn a new skill during quarantine—and for some that new skill is learning a foreign language. Online services like Duolingo, Kahoot!, Babbel, and Rosetta Stone—which offers free accounts for students—are seeing major increases in use during social distancing. According to Duolingo, traffic is at “all time highs,” and new users spiked by 148% in the U.S. this March. German, French, and Spanish are among the most popular language courses.
