Instagram’s Snapchat copycat messaging app is here. Threads lets users message their “Close Friends,” a small list of followers curated by the user. Facebook is taking that list to the next level with a standalone app that allows users to directly share photos, videos, location, and more with these select followers, mimicking some of Snapchat’s best features. The new app is already raising privacy red flags, especially with its “auto-status” feature, which can, for instance, use your location to tell friends you’re at a café, or identify via your phone’s movements that you’re biking to tell friends that you’re “on the move.” (The Verge)
