2018 has “hit peak subscription box.” The e-commerce market for subscriptions (including Netflix and meal kits) has boomed from $57 million in 2011 to $2.6 billion in 2016, according to McKinsey, and 55% are curated services. There are 40% more subscription boxes than last year, and Snapfulfil found that 47% launched in the past year alone. But while leaders like Ipsy (which claims the third-largest membership of all) are cashing in, My Subscription Addiction reports 13% have folded. (Fast Company)
