Young, single women are downplaying their work accomplishments, according to a new study on M.B.A. candidates. Being part of both the labor and marriage market has presented a conundrum for women who feel they need to be less assertive in order to ‘attract a mate.’ Authors behind the study stated that single female respondents “lowered their desired yearly compensation from $131,000 to $113,000 and their willingness to travel from 14 to seven days per month,” when they were told that their responses would be read by other classmates.
