Traditional sports could be facing a major Millennial problem. According to a recent survey by L.E.K Consulting, 40% of 17-34-year-olds prefer esports, compared to 42% who prefer “old fashioned” sports (18% are undecided). Esports are accessible—available for live-stream on Twitch, and easily viewable on mobile—while traditional sports haven’t transitioned off the TV set, and still require high premiums on content access. This could be why they’re mainly supported by a 35-and-over crowd, while Millennial viewing habits become more and more “incompatible with the current business model for traditional sports.” (Venture Beat)
