Instagrammable food is winding up in the trash, as eating becomes more about the “aesthetic” than the action. From the Unicorn Frappuccino to Baby Groot bread, Instagrammability is key, but Instagram food also has to be “elusive and aspirational”—long lines and limited availability make obtaining it a “status performance.” Actually eating it…that’s secondary. Case in point: one popular ice cream Instagrammer claims he throws away 75% of the scoops he posts, taking as many good pics as he can before it “gets too melty.” (Eater)
