Two young reporters are starting a conversational news empire. Newsgirls, launched in 2024, has almost half a million followers across platforms, but its 30-year-old hosts never actually planned to run an independent media outlet. Hosts Wren Woodson and Mabel Kabani met working at 60 Minutes and pitched their investigative content with a Gen Z tone to major media outlets. Now, they post on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and even Substack as “news creators,” covering topics from the Epstein files to New York’s mayoral election. Their goal is to make “easily digestible” but credibly researched news, even if getting eyes on it means starting with “something gossipy” or making a thumbnail with bold, neon text. Despite skeptics and plenty of negative comments, the Newsgirls are reaching tons of viewers. After all, YPulse knows this is how Gen Z likes getting their news: organically, on social media, and from a relatable voice they feel they can trust. (Vanity Fair)
