UC Berkeley is helping student athletes become streamers. Many universities have been investing in content production for their athletes to secure NIL deals and up their own engagement. But with this new studio for Cal’s Twitch channel with StreamU, college athletes can build a bigger audience by livestreaming their interests in and out of sports, from cooking to gaming. We know Gen Z pays a lot of attention to streamers—especially gamers—so seeing an athlete cross into that world is just as powerful as seeing their GRWM on TikTok. (For Gen Z boys, maybe more.) The Cal streams have a weekly schedule set for 10 hours of content, making it essentially another “show” in Gen Z’s social-media-as-TV world. StreamU also already has plans to expand to four more schools, which could make streaming another normal part of student athlete content. (Mashable)
