Gen Alpha has a new insult. (Spoiler: it’s the French fry emoji.) Younger social media users are dropping it in the comment sections to call someone or something “corny” or “cringe.” Sometimes it’s paired with a peace sign, and the message is usually closer to “wrap it up.” But like much of Gen Alpha’s slang, the joke has been around longer than its latest emoji form. According to Know Your Meme, using fries as an insult gained traction in 2024 with the phrase “just put the fries in the bag” and even earlier with “just put the ketchup in my bag, bro” in 2022 as a way to mock people who talked too much—this new phrase is just another version of the lexicon. But be warned: there’s a class-based undertone to the meme (“Someone working a service job isn’t worth listening to”), so while often used in good fun, the insult still carries that baggage.
