YouTube and Google are making sure Mark Rober’s science class stays in session. The companies are giving $2.5M in grant funding to Class CrunchLabs, the educational YouTube channel Rober creates and hosts. The funding will help him translate the curriculum into more languages, support additional research, and keep the lessons free for teachers and students. Rober launched Class CrunchLabs last year as an extension of his science kit brand, promising to give teachers a free science curriculum they could actually use in the classroom. Since then, he’s made good on his word: creating lessons for students in third through eighth grade, with videos that cover topics like collisions and electromagnetism available in 34 languages. To make the lessons more engaging, Rober has also brought in creator cameos like Trevor Rainbolt, while working with the National Science Teaching Association to ensure the curriculum meets educational standards. Now, the grant could help bring Rober’s creator-led approach to even more students—potentially a lot more given his 83.6M YouTube subscribers. (Tubefilter)
