A new Converse ad pokes at the differences Americans notice in Britain.

A new Converse ad pokes at the differences Americans notice in Britain. Starring American rapper Vince Staples, the ad makes light of the British stereotypes travelers may not have really expected to encounter. Rather than seeing only the kind of architecture from fantasy movies and period pieces, they’ll find “queueing, rain and wry sarcasm.” It follows a trend of ads leaning into the idea that “local is king,” like Coca-Cola’s “Counter Cultures” ad and Arsenal FC’s “Who Are Ya?” short film made with Spike Lee. Converse’s ad embraces authentic global differences as charming and something to connect over, even if it’s a bit cheeky by setting the star inside a telephone box packed with Brits in a rainstorm.
