Move over Jennifer’s Body, Gen Z horror fans have found a new cult classic. Just last month, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, a queer satirical slasher, hit theaters, and it was exactly what Gen Z ordered. The film has spawned the “Miasmamaxxers,” a group of devoted fans who’ve been showing up to screenings covered in fake blood, wearing homemade “Welcome to Camp Miasma” shirts, and dressing as the villain. Meanwhile, “Janeheads,” super-fans of the film’s director, have flooded social media with Camp Miasma-inspired nail art, merch, and even tattoos. Their enthusiasm is translating into box office success, as the movie climbs the charts despite competing with major blockbusters. But, YPulse knows Gen Z has been having a huge horror film summer, with hits like Obsession and Backrooms capturing their attention.
