The new Grand Theft Auto VI might teach Gen Z how to have a relationship. Jason and Lucia are at the center of the action for GTA 6—and players can choose to make fostering their relationship a part of the game. An optional play mode will let players maintain the protagonists’ romance through text messages, going on dates, and holding hands. Spending time together, whether that time is spent robbing banks or playing mini golf, strengthens the relationship. Social media is already full of posts of women saying that their partners playing a game where they need to text and go on dates with a woman is akin to cheating. But for some Gen Z and Gen Alpha players, this might be relationship practice—the American Enterprise Institute reports that 56% of Gen Z adults had a boyfriend or girlfriend in adolescence, compared to 69% of Millennials and 76% of Xers. As one X user put it, “Some mfs 1st ever relationship is gonna be with Lucia playing GTA 6.” (Mashable, IGN)
