Fashion brands are using in-store repair workshops to connect with Gen Z. Luxury fashion and specialty retailers like Patagonia and L.L. Bean have offered repair services for years, but the idea is now spreading as resale and thrifting have become bigger parts of Gen Z’s shopping habits. Levi’s, for example, created a hand-stitching course for high school students after recognizing many don’t have the skills needed to repair or customize the pieces they find. Meanwhile, Primark hosts free events where customers are taught skills like how to replace zippers and buttons. Of course, some critics question just how much these programs actually reduce fashion’s environmental footprint. But YPulse knows that at least for Gen Z, the appeal goes beyond sustainability. For a gen that’s cost-conscious, interested in secondhand, and drawn to making purchases feel more personal, these classes give brands a way to meet several of those priorities at once. (LA Times)
