A new report could push the EU closer to proposing a children’s social media ban. A new report presented to the European Commission president recommends children under 13 should be restricted to only time-limited, supervised social media use. In addition, it suggests 13-18-year-olds should only have access to platforms with strong safety features, like limits on infinite scrolling. The report also states that children three-and-under should have zero screen time. If the social media ban for children goes into effect, it would be the largest effort across the 27-nation European Union. Still, there is little information about how the rules would actually be enforced—especially since children in countries with social media bans in place have easily sidestepped the rules. (NYT)
