Young adults globally want to get informative, but not depressing, news. Reuters data shows 18-24-year-olds have a higher-ranking interest in “fun news” than adults over-55-years-old. Though the actual percentage who want to see it is lower among young adults (23% 18-24 vs 32% 55+), it ranks as the fifth highest news topic they’re interested in, as compared to 10th among the older gens. Most young adults don’t feel the news media does a good job making them feel better about the world. And since so many young adults are getting news through social media—where they can find creators and even characters to deliver their news in a slightly less depressing format—news media is needing to keep up with “good news” verticals and “personality-led content.” (Nieman Lab)
