Gen Z Europeans are done waiting for Big Tech to self-regulate. As governments from the EU to Australia start cracking down on platforms, Gen Z wants to make sure they’re a part of writing the rules this time. That’s what inspired groups like Ctrl+Alt+Reclaim, a digital justice coalition of 15-29-year-olds that launched last year in London. It has since spread across Europe as the continent’s first youth-led push for platform accountability. Their core demand and rallying cry, “Nothing for us, without us” reflects their frustration of being excluded from policy conversations about the very spaces they grew up in. They’re not anti-social media, though, with one leader saying it isn’t a protest against social media but rather fighting for reform for safer platforms, data transparency, and genuine inclusion in tech regulation.
