German Gen Z might be the first to tap out from their peak social media use.

Nov 12 2025

German Gen Z might be the first to tap out from their peak social media use. While social media usage among 25-34-year-olds remains flat at 130 minutes, a recent GWI survey of 41K Germans found that 16-24-year-olds’ daily social media time peaked at 160 minutes in 2024, but dropped in 2025. A separate German youth study of 1.2K teens found 66% spend more time on phones than they want, 40% feel distracted from homework, and 25% feel “overwhelmed” by social media. These findings suggest some young Germans may be dialing back their screen time in an attempt to push back against endless algorithm-fed content and reclaim control over their attention. (The Times)
