British Gen Z wants the high street to feel like a hangout, not a checkout line.

British Gen Z wants the high street to feel like a hangout, not a checkout line. In an American Express survey of 3.5K U.K. shoppers, 65% of Gen Z shoppers (under 29-years-old) say stores should offer something they cannot get online—think exclusive services and live moments that reward showing up IRL. To Gen Z, the experience of shopping is about more than simply buying; 60% calling shopping “a day out,” treating it as its own occasion. It is also about customization, especially through tech, with 75% wanting to see retailers use AI for immersive experiences like digital try-ons and AI styling. These preferences could “reshape British high streets into vibrant social hubs.” For a generation that is losing third spaces, they’re calling on retailers to fill the gap. (FashionUnited)
