Instagram’s new “Map” feature lets users share their location with friends (just like Snap Maps!). For Gen Z, giving their friends constant access to their location isn’t crossing a privacy line, it makes them feel safe and like they can always be connected. The opt-in feature, now available in the U.S., lets users see where their friends are in real-time and explore location-based content like cafes or events they’ve tagged or visited. And it’s not for everyone to see; the flexible privacy settings include options to share only with Close Friends or limit updates to when the app is open. According to YPulse, 33% of 13-24-year-olds share their location on social media, and Snap Maps is especially popular with YPulse data showing 45% of 18-24-year-olds and 22% of 13-17-year-olds using the feature.
