Young celebs are fueling the comeback of 2010 aesthetics. (Yes, already.) It’s no secret that social media’s function today is drastically different than the carefree, spontaneous vibe it had in the 2010’s, when Instagram first launched and sepia-filtered selfies reigned supreme. (The time a lot of Gen Z doesn’t actually remember.) However, lately, there have been signs of an aesthetic return to the early social media days thanks to Gen Z-adored celebs like Addison Rae, who’s been posting blurry flower photos, and Kylie Jenner, who’s been reminiscing over her own 2010s King Kylie era on Instagram. Even Justin Bieber has started posting multiple times a day like many users did in the early Instagram days, moving away from an over-planned (to look unplanned) presence. Young people are following suit, editing their photos to look like 2010 filters and posting more randomly. On TikTok, the hashtag #2014 has almost 800K posts, while #TumblrAesthetic has over 183K.
