A teen allegedly created the viral “Grow a Garden” game on Roblox, and young gamers are loving it. It’s no secret that cozy games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley have won over the hearts of young gamers. According to YPulse, 69% of 13-17-year-old girls and 47% of 13-17-year-old boys like cozy games, mainly due to their real-life mental health benefits. Now, Roblox’s “Grow A Garden” game, reportedly created by an anonymous 16-year-old and then built out by a team of developers, is breaking popularity records on the platform. In the free to play game, users can plant seeds that grow into plants to be sold, with Robux (from real-world money) offering ways to create more elaborate set ups, get more plants, or steal other users’ crops. As of last week, the game had more than 2.2M people playing, four times as many as the next popular game on Roblox. It’s also among the games to most quickly gain 1B visits in Roblox history.
