What is “aura farming” and why are young people obsessed with it? “Aura farming” is another addition to the Gen Alpha and Gen Z lexicon which means showing off how cool they are. It’s when someone does something slick, stylish, or dramatic—like perfectly tossing trash into a bin from across the room as students always have—to rack up imaginary “aura points.” (A trend we told you about back in August 2024). The “farming” part comes from video game slang, where “farming” means grinding to level up. One of their prime examples of aura farming is Timothée Chalamet giving emperor energy in Dune, but IRL, looks more like someone landing a trick at the skate park with zero reaction. But looking cool is a fine line—try too hard and it veers into cringe. (The Guardian)
