Young students’ mental health problems are driving school absences in the U.K. New government data reveals one in four students are struggling with poor mental health, which is significantly contributing to the school absence crisis. Students with mental health challenges are seven times more likely to miss over 15 days of school, with severe absences rising sharply since the pandemic. In turn, new incoming support measures include recruiting over 6K extra teachers, offering free breakfast clubs to every primary school in the country, and the government pledging mental health professionals in every school.
