Fewer young women want to take their husbands’ surname after marriage. According to a new YouGov poll, only 35% of 18-34-year-old women in the U.K. would follow the tradition of taking their partner’s surname. Instead, 24% of young women say both partners should keep their own names, and alternatively, 29% of young men are open to taking their spouse’s name. Some young couples are opting to both hyphenate their names, like celebrity couple Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham, for example. Both men and women over-65-year-olds were “significantly less enthusiastic” about alternative surname options, but Gen Z is always starting new norms. (The Times)
