Some young women are putting first dates on hold.

Some young women are putting first dates on hold. From feeling let down by dating apps to navigating a confusing hookup culture, many young women are stepping back from looking for romance. The current dating landscape is layered: political divides between men and women, amplified by social media, has reshaped how people connect, leaving many single women to focus on themselves or their friendships instead of finding a partner. In fact, 80% of 13-39-year-old women agree that friendships are equally as important as romantic relationships, and 58% of all singles say romantic relationships aren’t a priority for them right now, according to YPulse. But it’s not that Gen Z is totally giving up on love; they’re just choosing to build full, meaningful loves first—and letting dating follow. YPulse data shows 71% of young people agree that there’s no “right” age to find a partner, so they’re not rushing a match.
