Young people find social media content more relevant than TV shows and movies. Deloitte’s latest survey shows 56% of Gen Z and 43% of Millennials find social media content more relevant than traditional TV. And with TV and movie content so readily available in short clips on social media, opting for social over streaming has never been easier. Creators are becoming the new celebrities in turn—52% of Gen Z consumers said they feel a stronger connection to social media creators than to TV personalities or actors. And because social platforms deliver exactly what young audiences want—personalized, niche content that feels real and relatable—traditional Hollywood studios have to find new strategies to compete.
