Meta’s interactive AI Instagram profiles are getting tons of backlash.

Meta’s interactive AI Instagram profiles are getting tons of backlash. These artificially generated accounts, complete with AI images of the character and a chat based on their “personality,” are not a new rollout from Meta. In fact, they’ve been around for months, but a recent wave of increased awareness has caused a huge pushback, especially around the AI people of color and dating advice bots. One profile named “Liv,” described as a “proud Black queer momma of 2 & truth-teller,” struck a particularly bad chord, as one Bluesky post reveals no Black developers were on the team to create it. Since the user criticism, Meta has been deleting the profiles, even though spokespeople have said the brand sees AI profiles becoming a regular part of its platforms. Interestingly, in-house celebrity-lookalike AI profiles were taken down last year, too. (The VergeCNN)
