Over 40 U.S. states are suing Meta, accusing the tech giant of intentionally employing addictive features detrimental to children’s mental health. Recent Pew Research Center surveys reveal that both adults and teens in the U.S. lean toward supporting measures like requiring parental consent for minors to create social media accounts and age verification for platform use. The majority of adults (81%) back parental consent, 71% favor age verification, and 69% endorse limiting minors’ time on social media. Teens, on the other hand, show less enthusiasm for these measures, with 46% supporting parental consent, 56% for age verification, and a clear disagreement for time limits at 34%. These findings suggest greater adult support for safeguarding minors on social media—even though YPulse data shows Gen Z knows tech addiction is an issue. (Pew Research Center)
