Finstas are making a comeback with Gen Z celebs. Okay, maybe having a public second account isn’t quite a finsta in the truest sense. But with Addison Rae, Zara Larson, Rachel Sennott, and tons of guest celebs on Instagram’s own “finsta” posting the less polished pieces of their camera roll, there’s a new wave of pushing authenticity on socials. The accounts make followers feel more personally connected and humanize the celebs they often only see glammed up from their best angle. And the usernames are mostly not publicized, so “finding” them creates a semblance of finsta’s original secrecy. It can also signal a more dedicated fandom for some celebs, like Charli XCX, who used a finsta to share pop-up clues during Brat summer. Some brands are getting in on the trend now, too, giving them an option to have both a polished and unpolished feed, rather than having to commit solely to an aesthetic or going full meme page.
