The high street is alive and well thanks to Gen Z. New stores have been drawing in massive crowds, from U.S. fast fashion brand Edikted’s new storefront in Carnaby Street to the return of Topshop’s brick and mortar store at John Lewis. According to data from estate agent Savills, foot traffic at the U.K.’s 12 largest shopping centers is up 55% since 2021. Gen Z shoppers between 14-29-years-old are leading the IRL shopping resurgence, and more shopping centers are being revamped to attract young consumers in turn—especially in London. Retailers are taking note of young consumers posting about their shopping trips and offering things like pop-up events, beauty consultations, and personalized clothing to keep them coming back. YPulse data shows that the majority of young people shop in physical stores, with many of them agreeing that in-store shopping should be an experience. (Financial Times)
