YouTube is committing $20M toward teens’ online literacy. Young people and their parents are constantly having to evaluate what is and isn’t safe online, from trusting AI for their most personal conversations to navigating misinformation. But while many countries are exploring restrictions (bans) as a solution to young people seeing harmful content on socials, others feel it’s responsible media consumption that’s the answer. The new resource center from YouTube is reportedly a learning spot to give users “the confidence to build healthy relationships with technology.” Part of the initiative will also be partnering with YouTubers—who we know teens place tons of trust in—to spread the message, alongside non-profits tailoring it for different cultures and communities.
