Prediction markets are letting young people bet on just about everything.

Feb 19 2026

Prediction markets are letting young people bet on just about everything. Thanks to platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi, young people can now place bets on almost anything—from presidential elections to the outcome of viral celebrity drama. No complicated spreads or deep sports knowledge required! That simplicity, paired with a sleek interface, has made gambling especially appealing to young, inexperienced bettors. These platforms position themselves as spaces where young users are betting against other participants rather than “the house”—though the fine print suggests otherwise. Plus, for many young users, making bets in prediction markets doesn’t feel like traditional gambling, but feels closer to trading or investing. That framing, along with mainstream visibility from outlets like CNN (who now shows bets during live broadcasts) has helped normalize this kind of betting. But while these platforms are gaining popularity, early analyses suggest users may be losing more money than with traditional sports betting apps. (Futurism)
