“Wuthering Heights” had a No. 1 opening weekend thanks to women obsessed with yearning. YPulse told you 2026 would be Gen Z’s year of classic, tragic romance obsession, and the new “Wuthering Heights” would have a role in it. The release weekend certainly proved us right—by Sunday, the movie had pulled in nearly $35M in North America alone, making it another No. 1 for Warner Bros’ streak. But it couldn’t have happened without women pouring into theaters: estimates say 76% of ticket buyers this past weekend were women. And we know young women were certainly a big part of this, given the viral buzz for the movie on social media. It is getting mixed audience and critic review, but as we’ve seen before, viewers pulling scenes apart, analyzing director choices, and re-cutting their favorite scenes will keep talk going for weeks—which is the real win for studios.
