For Gen Z, “income stacking” is more than just a side hustle trend. According to a Fiverr survey of 12K young people, 46% of Gen Z say their biggest career fear is not making enough money to live comfortably. So, they’re building their own safety nets instead of waiting for traditional employment to deliver. Starting their careers at just 19-years-old on average, 38% are already freelancing or planning to start, with 67% saying multiple income streams are essential for financial security. But this isn’t just inflation anxiety; only 14% even want to work for a big-name corporation, and 56% predict traditional employment will become obsolete for their generation. Watching companies lay off workers at the drop of a hat, Gen Z is refusing to trust anyone else with their financial future and is turning “side hustles” into primary career strategies.
