Young sex workers aren’t making as much money as they used to.

Jun 04 2025

Young sex workers aren’t making as much money as they used to. In recent years, plenty of young Americans, specifically young women 18-35-years-old, have gone into sex work to make “far more money” than regular jobs like retail work or corporate careers can provide. According to OnlyFans, their creator accounts surged from 350K in 2019 to 4.1M in 2024. But what was once an extremely lucrative market—one stripper earned up to $4K per private party while some OnlyFans creators have made millions—is now oversaturated and less likely to provide the same path to wealth. Many who once saw sex work as a fast-track to financial freedom are now struggling to make the same income levels, with some questioning how—or if—they’ll ever transition out. As one worker put it, “There is no middle class in sex work anymore,” and for young gens, what once felt like a shortcut to the American dream is starting to look more like a dead end.
