France is being urged to declare “state of emergency” over kids’ screen time. In a joint declaration, former Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and child psychologist Marcel Rufo urged the government to take sweeping action on excessive screen use among young people. This would include banning screens for children under 6-years-old, restricting social media access for kids under 15-years-old, enforcing a digital curfew from 10pm to 8am for teens, and introducing mandatory screen addiction assessments at ages 11-years-old and 15-years-old. Their proposals also include limiting screen use to one hour per day for minors and requiring apps to display “addict-scores” like food Nutri-Scores. This push comes amid growing concern from medical experts and follows a pilot phone ban in schools that will expand nationwide in September. (The Local)
