Some American Gen Z parents are traveling abroad to have kids. They’re not doing it for adventure, but for access to what they deem better healthcare and more affordable delivery costs. And it’s not just for giving birth; they’re also setting down roots for generous parental leave and long-term benefits like dual citizenship. A survey by Greenback Expat Tax Services found that one in four Gen Z expats have already given birth abroad, and nearly two thirds plan to when the time comes. Concerns about the U.S. healthcare system and rising living costs are driving young people to choose countries like Canada, Germany, and Australia specifically. Among young parents who have given birth abroad, 89% of Gen Z and 93% of Millennials said they’d recommend it to others. It seems for young gens, starting a family overseas feels like a step up, not a risk. (Vice)
