Many Gen Z job seekers are questioning the value of their degrees as AI reshapes the job market. A new report from Indeed found that more than half (51%) of Gen Z and 41% of Millennials consider their degrees a waste of money—significantly more than older generations. This feeling is partly fueled by the recent rise in job listings that no longer require degrees and the growing demand for AI-related skills instead. As companies adopt generative AI tools across nearly every role, younger workers are being forced to adapt quickly, often without formal training—which they didn’t get in college, either. In turn, experts say employers need to offer accessible up-skilling opportunities and foster a workplace culture that encourages continuous learning if they want to keep Gen Z workers on their team.
