“Baby Tech” is becoming popular among young parents. This gen of parents is gravitating toward optimized gadgets and apps for their children, to ease anxieties about their safety and health. New technology like the Elvie Rise, an $800 app-controlled smart bouncer that attunes to a baby’s sleep preferences, and the Owlet Dream Sock, a $300 app-linked sock that tracks a baby’s vitals, promise to offer peace of mind for parents. But experts warn that the overuse of tech could make parents less attuned to their baby’s needs and cues on their own—and constant monitoring and notifications may give them even more anxiety. For example, while the Owlet Sock aims to help parents keep an eye on their baby’s health, pediatricians worry about false alarms leading to anxiously and unnecessarily monitoring healthy children.
