Almost half of teens are always connected online. A recent report from the Pew Research Center shows that nearly half of 13-17-year-olds in the U.S. are online all the time, despite worries about how social media and smartphones could affect their mental health. YouTube remains the most used platform, used by 90% of teens, although the number of daily visits has dropped slightly. Boys generally prefer YouTube, while girls favor TikTok. Looking more closely, about 25% of Black and Hispanic teens use TikTok “almost constantly,” compared to just 8% of White teens. YouTube and TikTok were found to be the only platforms with a clear difference in usage between teen boys and girls, while Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook did not show significant gender differences.
