Young men supporting Trump more than women may be rooted in a projection of masculinity. Gen Z men (18-29-years-old) are +13pts more likely than women to favor Trump, while young women in the group are +38pts more likely to favor Kamala Harris—a 51-point gap that stood at 38 points in June when Biden was on the ticket. And yet, The New York Times reports that many of these Gen Z male voters are not exactly socially conservative. Instead, their support for Trump may be rooted in feeling like “being a man” is more difficult due to factors like financial struggles that could limit supporting a family. In fact, 18-29-year-old men are more likely than older gens to feel “there is some or a lot of discrimination against men in American society,” with almost half saying so. So, the right’s value on traditional masculinity and strength resonates with them. (NYT)
