Young people are worried about AI-generated images—but they’re making their way into election campaigns. Donald Trump recently posted an AI-generated fake endorsement from Taylor Swift, raising eyebrows given his earlier criticism of Kamala Harris for allegedly using AI to generate a crowd at one of her rallies. But according to the co-president of Public Citizen, “there are no federal restrictions on the use of deepfakes in the election.” In order for it to be illegal, an opponent would need to demonstrate that the lie caused harm or injury to voters. So while Trump’s AI-generated “Swifties for Trump” tweet has left many of her young fans angry, it’s technically allowed for now. (The Verge)
